Iuliana Negoiță

“I paint to be able to breathe.”

My name is Iuliana, a Romanian painter now based in Malta. I studied art for eight years in school, then went on to university, and set the brushes aside for two decades; a different life took over in the meantime. I only found my way back to painting after moving here, following the loss of my mother.

I work mostly with a palette knife, letting raw emotion lead and the canvas reveal what it will. My inspiration comes entirely from my own life and inner world — it's the most honest way I've found to communicate and reconnect with the world around me. There have been many moments these past years when words simply failed me. But when I paint, I find a freedom that's difficult to put into words, and a sincerity that goes far beyond them.
